C2 -Y-Axis Bearing replacement

Modified on Fri, 22 May at 8:48 AM

When you go to replace the bearing you will want to do one side of the machine at a time.

Start by moving the Spindle to the center of the X-Axis so the weight is evenly distributed across the gantry

Then move the Y-Axis towards the front of the machine within 12" of the end of the linear rail

Then Remove the tool from the spindle

Then lower the Z-Axis down onto a block of wood

Then place a jack on top of the bed of the machine between between the center of the X axis the side you are replacing the bearing on. Gently jack the X-Axis gantry up but you don't actually want to raise the axis the goal is to take the weight off the bearings so that you can easily replace them.

Next disconnect the grease line and unscrew it from the block as you will want to reuse it on the new block (see picture below)

Next you will remove the bolts securing the the front bearing in place and slide the bearing forward off the rail, be careful as once it comes to the end of the rail all the ball bearings inside it will fall out

Next remove the bolts holding the rear bearing in place and repeat the steps you preformed in the previous step

Next try to wipe down the rail in front of the gantry to collect any debris

Next screw the push fitting from the old bearing onto the new bearing

Next slide the new bearing that will be furthest back on first with the push fitting facing towards the rear of the machine and slide it into place

Next reinstall the 4 bolts that secure the bearing to the gantry and connect the grease line

Next install the front bearing onto the rail with the push fitting facing towards the machine and slide it into place

Next reinstall the 4 bolts that secure the bearing to the gantry and connect the grease line

now that everything has been reinstalled and reconnected you can replace the panel and lower the jack down

if you need to replace the bearings on the opposite side please follow the steps outlined above

Once you are done replacing the necessary bearings please pump the grease arm to grease the new bearings

raise the Z-Axis and remove the block of wood underneath it, reinstall the tool to the spindle and you should be able to start cutting again!
