This document will briefly show the process for replacing or simply tightening the large X-Axis Belt on all Mira model Aeon Lasers. The X axis belt we are discussing is the large belt that circles across the gantry from left to right. This belt provides tension to the X axis movements of the laser head.
This belt is a 1 piece belt. It begins at the laser head, goes around the side bearings on each end of the gantry, goes around the back of the gantry and reconnects at the laser head.
The 2 silver bolts circled in the photo below hold the belt in place by pinching the end of it.
Both left and right side pinch plates should be loosened if you are removing the belt. Once removed, the belt can be completely removed and replaced.
When replacing the belt, it’s important to make sure it circles around the entire gantry, and the bearings on the left and right side. Both ends of the belt should reach close to the pinch connections at the laser head, but it will be impossible to tighten correctly without releasing the tension mechanism.
To allow some slack in the belt so you can pinch both ends at the laser head, loosen the 2 bolts seen in the photo below (LEFT side of gantry).
This will allow the tension mechanism to slide.
Next there are 2 more bolts in the same area on the other side that loosen/tighten the tension.
Tightening these will make the belt tighter, loosening them will give you slack to work with.
Once you’ve locked in the belt on both ends within the pinch plates at the laser head. Then you should add your tension back in until it is tight enough that you can feel the tension in the belt when pressed with your finger.
Once the tension is sufficient. Remember to tighten the slide locking bolts so the tension doesn’t drift away!
