MIRA - adjusting auto focus pin length

Modified on Thu, 29 Dec, 2022 at 10:29 AM

If the auto focus pin sensor shows that it is working on the "Diagnoses" screen and your Mira will still not auto focus without crashing, you may need to lower the auto focus pin (because a previous crashed pushed it father into the laser head).

1: Ensure there is material under your laser head/auto-focus pin.

2: Manually jog the z-axis up to a point where your material is nearly touching the nozzle (0.5mm-1mm should be fine). DO NOT crash your material into the nozzle, and do not press the auto-focus button.

3: Loosen the black set screw on the right side of the auto-focus housing (circled in blue).

4: Spin the gold pin counter-clockwise until the red nubbin is high enough to turn off the red light on the left side of the sensor.

5: Tighten back up the black set screw which was loosened on step 3.

6: Test that the adjustment has worked, by manually lowering the z-axis and raising it back up ensuring the red light on the sensor goes out before hitting the bottom of the nozzle.

7: Test it again by using the auto-focus button either on lightburn or the laser controller.

Test the auto focus procedure again. (but be mindful of a potential crash, as the auto focus pin may not be out far enough yet).
